Fireboy and Watergirl: Light Temple

Fireboy and Watergirl Light Temple: The Duo Steps Into the Glow

Fireboy and Watergirl Light Temple is the second adventure in the much loved co-op puzzle series by Oslo Albet. After escaping the mossy halls of the Forest Temple, the fiery boy and the watery girl enter a shining new ruin full of beams, mirrors and pitch black chambers. Many players simply call it Fireboy and Watergirl 2.

The heart of the game stays the same. You guide two characters through each stage, collect the diamonds that match their colour, and bring both of them to their own exit doors. Fireboy can stand in lava but dies in water, Watergirl can swim through water but burns in lava, and green goo is deadly to both. What makes the Light Temple special is that the room itself becomes the puzzle, because light now decides which doors open and which paths stay sealed.

Beams, Mirrors and Dark Rooms: What Changed After the Forest

The Forest Temple taught players to share levers, buttons and lifts. The Light Temple keeps all of that and adds three fresh ideas that change how you read every level.

Light sensors that open the way

Many doors and platforms in the Light Temple are linked to light sensitive switches. A switch only reacts when a beam lands on it, so your first job is often to work out where the beam starts and where it needs to end up.

Mirror blocks and the right angle rule

Mirrors bounce a beam at a right angle, turning the light by 90 degrees. Some mirrors sit on blocks that the characters can push along the floor. Getting a block to exactly the right spot is the real challenge, because a small mistake sends the beam into a wall instead of onto the sensor.

Levels lit only by your own glow

Some Light Temple stages are almost completely dark. You can only see a small circle of light around each character and the platforms close to them, so a pool of the wrong element can be hiding just outside the glow.

Starting a Run on FireboyandWatergirl.net

You can play Fireboy and Watergirl Light Temple right here on FireboyandWatergirl.net, straight in your web browser. The Light Temple loads in the player at the top of this page, so all you need is a keyboard and, ideally, a friend sitting next to you. Our homepage hosts the original Forest Temple, and each of the other temples has its own page, so you can follow the whole story in order.

Key Layout for Two Players or One Brave Solo

In the Light Temple, both heroes share one keyboard. Fireboy moves and jumps with the arrow keys, while Watergirl uses the W, A and D keys. Each player has a separate set of keys, so two people can play side by side without getting in each other's way.

You can also control both characters on your own. It is harder, but many fans enjoy that extra challenge. Keep in mind that the characters can push blocks but cannot pull them, which matters a lot once the Light Temple mirror blocks enter the picture.

Smarter Habits for the Light Temple

The Light Temple rewards players who stop and think before they move.

Trace the beam before you touch anything

At the start of a Light Temple puzzle, look at the source, every mirror and every sensor. Picture the path the beam must take, counting each 90 degree turn. Then push the blocks one step at a time and watch how the light moves.

Never shove a block blindly

Because you can only push, a block driven into a corner may be stuck for good. If that happens, restart the level.

Split the diamonds by colour

Red diamonds belong to Fireboy and blue diamonds belong to Watergirl. Decide who grabs what before you set off, and agree on who holds a button while the other crosses.

Practise the dark rooms

In the darkest Light Temple levels, take a short lap to learn the layout, then restart and play it properly. Knowing where the hazards sit lets you move with confidence.

From Flash Sequel to Browser Classic

Oslo Albet released the first game, Fireboy and Watergirl in the Forest Temple, in 2009. Its success led straight to a sequel, and Fireboy and Watergirl 2: In the Light Temple arrived in 2010. Like the original, it was built in Adobe Flash. When Flash faded away, the series moved to HTML5, which is why you can still enjoy the Light Temple in a modern browser today.

Reviewers praised how the Light Temple mechanics fitted naturally into the existing formula. Fireboy and Watergirl 2 kept the timed runs and the mix of teamwork and solo diamond stages, yet the mirrors and dark rooms made it feel fresh. That balance set the pattern for the temples that followed the Light Temple.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fireboy and Watergirl 2
